We Are The Host (WATH) Course

What is We Are The Host (WATH)?

  • One of the courses under Malaysia Welcomes The World (MWW).
  • It is an updated version of Mesra Malaysia course that was conducted since 2007 until 2012 to train all frontliners in tourism industry.
  • A replacement and more comprehensive course to train all tourism frontliners.
  • In line with Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) effort as the host for Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

What is the objective of We Are The Host Course?
  • To prepare frontliners to be more knowledgeable and hospitable as an excellent host of Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
  • To give clear direction and vision of Malaysia Tourism Industry from time to time which has been set up by National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) and Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan (MTTP).
  • To understand the importance and the need to acquire first class customer service skills as well as to provide better services.
  • To understand the communication process and its barriers in order to communicate more effectively.
  • To give awareness and to share information about the latest and updated tourism products.
  • To instil, ownership and a proud spirit amongst the Malaysians to host Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and buy in the tourism industry.

Who should attend?
  • This one day course is open to any frontliners, tourism industry players and any individuals who are involved directly and indirectly in the tourism industry.
  • Only trained and appointed trainers by Ministry of Tourism and Culture is allowed to train the We Are The Host participants.
  • Each participant who completed the course will be receiving a We Are the Host Certificate and CD.

Eco-Host Malaysia

What is Eco-Host Malaysia?
Eco-Host Malaysia was introduced by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia to enhance public awareness of the need to preserve and conserve the natural environment. It also aims to educate the public on the current environmental situation and how human activities affect the ecosystem.

Why do I need to attend Eco-Host?
By attending Eco-Host, you will better understand the relationship between tourism and the environment (including the local community) as well as the importance of eco-tourism and responsibility to the environment.

How do I participate in Eco-Host?
Eco-Host is conducted by trained instructors for a fee of RM100.00. At the end of the course, participants will be presented with Eco-Host lapel pins and certificates as proof that they have successfully completed the course.

Tourist Boat Operating Course

What is the Tourist Boat Operating Course?
The Tourist Boat Operating Course is conducted by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and the Marine Department with the aim of raising the competency and knowledge of parties involved in the maritime transport industry. The objective of the course is to increase awareness by focusing on the technical aspects, safety, prevention and the proper methods of handling tourists and equipment.

When and where is the course held?
This course is held once a year at any suitable location, particularly at locations that are closely related to tourist boating/ferry activities.

Who should attend?
Tourist boat service operators, boat and ferry captains, resort operators and individuals who are directly involved in the maritime transport industry

Local Nature Tourist Guide Course, Level 2

How do I become a local nature tourist guide?
The opportunity to become a tourist guide is open to all Malaysian citizens with a strong interest in tourism and nature as well as enthusiasm to interact with tourists. They must also have good discipline and be very knowledgeable about ecotourism and the country as a whole. Candidates are required take the Level 2 Local Nature Tourist Guide Course which is conducted by PERHILITAN (Peninsular Malaysia) and selected tourism training institutions (Sabah and Sarawak) as well as pass the examination conducted by the Ministry of Tourism.

What are the qualifications required?
Candidates interested in taking the Level 2 Local Nature Tourist Guide Course must have at least a Sijil Rendah Pelajaran (SRP). Candidates with lower academic qualifications but with vast experience in a jungle environment and nature-based tourism may be considered by the Ministry of Tourism.

What is the Level 2 Local Nature Tourist Guide Course?
Candidates must take the Level 2 Local Nature Tourist Guide Course within a minimum period of 2 weeks before they are allowed to sit for the local nature tourist guide examination conducted by the ministry.

Think Tourism Course

What is Think Tourism?
Think Tourism is a tourism and customer service awareness programme for front liners in the tourism industry. It is a one-day course conducted by trainers appointed by the ministry. At the end of the course, every participant will be given a Certificate of Attendance.

Why should I attend this course?
This course aims to provide knowledge and exposure to front liners in order to prepare them to face the challenges in the tourism industry and to improve their level of customer service.

How many have attended this course?
From 2002 until 2004, a total of 72 Think Tourism courses were held throughout the country and 7,200 participants were trained.

Who should attend?
This course is targeted at front liners such as taxi drivers, bus drivers, boat operators, tourist guides, cashiers at business premises and hotel workers at the front desks and others. They are the lower-level employees who constantly interact with tourists
